Chapter 4

I.                  Part of dialogue 

Miss Temple Barr: “A lawyer, you say? It was in the Tarot.”

Mr. Matt: “You mentioned all sort of high-tined occupations: Empress, and these here Hierophants, but no layers”.

Miss Temple Barr: “But I told you that Libra was a key. Do you not see? Libra’s symbol is the scales.”

Mr. Matt: “I like fish myself.”(1)

 Miss Temple Barr: “No, that is Pisces, you fool.”

 Mr. Matt: “I thought the Fool was one of your fancy cards”.

Miss Temple Barr:  it is. The scales that represent Libra is that metal instrument used to weigh goods-“

 Mr. Matt: “Aw, why did you not say so in the first place? I have seen the like in several meat shops”.

Miss Temple Barr: “And,” and….. The scales are used as the symbol of justice.”

 Mr. Matt: “So there is your lawyer predicted by the cards, if you were intelligent enough to see it.”Your cards always predict what has already happened, what else you claim?”(2)

Miss Temple Barr: “The Card didn’t mention anything about me.”

Mr. Matt: “The Card spoke. You did not listen.”

II.                Analysis of the novel using elements of thought

a.      Purpose:  Observe the prognosis of tarot, especially Libra card.   .

b.      Problem:

·         Miss Temple Barr problems are not believed of her Libra Card can predict what has already happened; she mentioned her Husband was Fool because of her Husband said the wrong name of horoscope “fish” and she justified, and then she said “Pisces” to her husband.

·         Mr. Matt considered of Fool was one of Miss Temple Barr fancy Cards.

c.       Fact, conclusion, and assumption:

1.      The fact that Mrs. Temple Barr didn’t know the prognosis of Libra card.

Mr. Matt: “So there is your lawyer predicted by the cards, if you were intelligent enough to see it.”Your cards always predict what has already happened, what else you claim?”

Miss Temple Barr: “The Card didn’t mention anything about me.

Conclusion : Miss Temple Barr didn’t know the prognosis her Libra card.

Assumptions: Mr. Matt Devine always tried to make convincing Mrs. Temple Barr about the   prognosis of Libra card, that Libra card can predict what has already happened.

2.      The fact that Mrs. Temple Barr mentioned her Husband was Fool.

Mr. Matt: “I like fish myself.”

 Miss Temple Barr: “No, that is Pisces, you fool.”

Conclusion : He (Mr. Matt Devine) disagrees if Mrs. Temple Barr mentioned him Fool

Assumptions: Miss Temple Barr mentioned her husband,  that he was fool, because of he said the wrong name of horoscope “fish” and then she justified, she said “Pisces” to her husband.

d.      Concepts:

There are 3 key concepts in the reasoning; fool, fancy cards and The Card spoke.

e.       Implications:

·         Mrs. Temple Barr considered that her Libra Card didn’t mention anything about her, so she was not believed the prognosis of horoscope.

·         Mr. Matt Devine had a trusty of Libra card can predict what has already happened.

f.       Point of view:

·         Mrs. Temple Barr was a wise guy.

·         Mrs. Temple Barr was a egoist person, she mentioned her husband “fool” and it could make Mr. Matt Devine angry.

·         Mr. Matt Devine felt that all his opinions about Libra card were rejected by Miss. Temple Barr, he felt that he must try harder to make convincing Mrs. Temple Barr about the   prognosis of Libra card.

III.           Reflection

 Dalam mengerjakan Tugas revisi 4 ini sangat jelas penjelasannya, karena sudah dilakukan evaluasi one by one, sehingga pemahaman yang diperoleh  cukup dimengerti. Terimakasih
