First example of essay
(Expository essay):
A good roommate is very important.
The first character of a good roommate is sense of humor. The next character of
a good roommate is respect for each other’s belonging. The final character of a
good roommate may surprise you; a good roommate is a lack of neatness. I need a
very good roommate who has three characters above.
The first
characteristic of a good roommate it is sense of humor. Any two roommates
will be very different people and they will disagree about many things.
However, if they each have a sense of humor, then they can laugh about these
disagreements instead of arguing about them. A good
sense of humor is necessary in a roommate.
The next
characteristic of a good roommate is respect for each other’s belonging.
When two people are roommates, they each come into this situation with their
own belongings. Because each roommate’s belongings are important to him or her,
is important for each of the roommates to respect the other roommate’s
belongings. Respect for each other’s belongings will
help to prevent problems between roommates.
The final important characteristic
of a good roommate may surprise you, but this characteristic is quite important
to me. This final characteristic of a good roommate is a
lack of neatness. I myself am not a very neat person, so it would be
very hard for me to have a neat roommate. A neat roommate would probably be
upset with me much of the time because I am a little messy. If I have a neat
roommate, this roommate and I would probably have problems. The best roommate for me is therefore a rather messy roommate.
Everybody needs a good roommate
including me. A good roommate should be a funny one. On the other side, a good
roommate can save our own belonging. I
do not really like a neat roommate; rather messy is better for me. A roommate
with these important characteristics will be a successful roommate for me.
Second example of essay
(traditional five paragraphs essay):
Everybody
has different way of measuring success. Money may be one measure of success,
but it is not the best measure of success. Better ways of measuring success are
available. Some of the better measures of a successful life are family, friend
and career.
One
way to measure the success of a life is the strength and depth of family
relationships. Perhaps someone either without a family or with a very unhappy
family has a lot of money, but this person has not really had a successful
life. Anybody with family relationships that are both strong and loving has had
a successful life.
Another
way to measure the success of a life is the strength of friendships. Someone
with a lot of money but no friends to share it with is not a successful person.
In contrast, somebody with lots of close, thoughtful, and caring friends has
achieved success in life.
A
final way to measure the success of life is the amount of enjoyment in a
career. A career with a lot of money but without enjoyment is neither
fulfilling nor desirable. On the other hand, a career that provides true
enjoyment day after day is a successful career even if it does not provide a
lot of money.
It
is not really good idea to measure the success of a life by the amount of money
that a person has made. Instead, the success of a life should be measured in a
number of other ways, not only by the family relations and the friends but also
by the career that a person has a developed over a lifetime. All of these
measures of success are far more meaningful and accurate than using money to
measure success.
