The intrinsic element of “Wind in the Willows” :
1.             Chapter 1: The River Bank
a.        Character and characteristic
·           Mole – A mild-mannered, home-loving animal, and the first character to be introduced. Fed up with spring cleaning in his secluded home, he ventures into the outside world. Originally overawed by the hustle and bustle of the riverbank, he eventually adapts.
(main character)
·           Ratty –is cultured, relaxed and friendly, with literary pretentions and a life of leisure. Ratty is Mole’s friend. Ratty loves the river and takes Mole under his wing. He is implied to be occasionally mischievous and can be stubborn when it comes to doing things outside of his riverside lifestyle.
·           Mr. Badger – is Ratty’s friend. Gruff and solitary, who "simply hates society", Badger embodies the "wise hermit" figure. A friend of Toad's late father, he is uncompromising with the disappointing Toad yet remains optimistic his good qualities will prevail. He lives in a vast underground set, part of which incorporates the remains of a buried Roman settlement. A brave and a skilled fighter, Badger helped clear the Wild Wooders from Toad Hall with his large cudgel.
(Protagonis)
·           Otter– A friend of Ratty with a stereotypical "Cockney costermonger" character, the extrovert Otter is tough and self-sufficient.
·           Squirrels and rabbits, who are generally good (although rabbits are described as "a mixed lot").

b.        Setting
(i)        Time   
·           In the morning, when Mole had been working, spring-cleaning his little home.
·           In the afternoon, when Mole met with Ratty and they were going to lunch.
(ii)          Place
·           In the River Bank

c.         Complication
When Mole finds that “something up above was calling him imperiously.” He has not even seen a river before.

d.        Climaks
He quickly digs his way to the world above. He makes an acquaintance with is Water Rat, who invites Mole on a boat ride and an impromptu picnic.

e.         Resolution
They were going in the bank of the river.

2.             Chapter 2: The Open Road
a.        Character and characteristic
Mr. Toad –  is Ratty’s friend. The wealthy scion of Toad Hall. Good-natured, kind-hearted and not without intelligence, Toad inherited his wealth from his late father. Spoiled, conceited, and impulsive, he is prone to obsessions and crazes (such as punting, houseboats, and horse-drawn caravans), each of which in turn he becomes bored with and drops. His motoring craze eventually sees him imprisoned for theft, dangerous driving and gross impertinence to the rural police.
b.        Setting
(i)            Time
·           In the morning, when Rat and Mole swimming.
(ii)          Place
·           In the River bank
·           In the Toad Hall
c.         Complication
Their first two days on the road are fairly uneventful.
d.        Climaks
They come to their first high road, where they are nearly run down by an automobile moving at high speed. The cart is wrecked from veering off the road.
e.         Resolution
Toad is taken by a new craze— automobiles—and becomes useless as Mole and Rat deal with the situation. They walk to the nearest town where they catch a train that takes them home.

3.             Chapter 3: The Wild Wood
a.        Setting
(i).   Time
·         In the winter time, when the Rat slept.
·         In the one afternoon, when the Rat in his armchair
(ii).  Place
·           In the Wild Wood.
b.        Complication
Mole want to meet Mr. Badger when he is unable to convince Rat to take him.
c.         Climaks
Mole decides to journey alone to the Wild Wood.
d.        Resolution
Mole can meet with Mr. Badger

4.             Chapter 4: Mr. Badger
a.        Setting
(i).     Time
·         In the afternoon, when they lunch.
(ii).    Place
·         At the Mr. Badger’s home.
b.        Complication
Mr. Badger promptly takes in the lost travelers.
c.         Climaks
Oters explains how the River Bank community has been worried about Rat and Mole being gone.


d.        Resolution
Badger feeds them, gives them dry clothes, and allows them to warm themselves by his fire. Rat fills in Mr. Badger on Toad’s automobile craze, and they decide that once the winter has passed, they will “take Toad seriously in hand.”

5.             Chapter 5: Dulce Donum
a.        Setting
(i).     Time
·         The rapid nightfall of mid-Desember
(ii).    Place
·         In the village
b.        Complication
After going on the journey and encountering smells that remind Mole and Rat of home.
c.         Climaks
Mole has a strong desire to see his home again.
d.        Resolution
Mole and Rat decide to go and see it.
